What are the Different Types of Insulin Pumps?
There are two basic types of insulin pumps. The first type of pump includes an “infusion set”, which essentially refers to a long small tube that delivers insulin. The tube connects to an insulin cartridge from which insulin is delivered to the body. With an infusion set in place, the insulin pump can sit far away from the body on the belt, other clothing, or in some situations, a pocket.
The tubeless type of pump goes directly on the arm or the abdomen and instead of a long infusion set, it has a very tiny tube that is placed into the injection site. This tube is referred to as a “cannula”.
