What is the Role of Digestion in Weight Loss?
The digestive system is very important when it comes to the ways in which we can lose weight. There is a restrictive way of losing weight, and there is a mal-absorptive way of losing weight. When medical professionals talk about restriction, they are usually referring to minimizing the amount of food that is consumed into the stomach. Usually, this involves early satiety by decreasing the size of the stomach or the amount of food that one can consume at a certain time.
When referring to mal-absorption, medical professionals are usually talking about decreasing the nutrients that are absorbed from the bowel into the blood stream. This also can facilitate weight loss, but at times can be problematic because obviously the body does require a certain amount of nutrients to perform well.
