Wisco Some really good tips on best ways to survive an asthma attack when you don't have an inhaler on hand. Interesting tip that I didn't know might help is drinking caffeinated beverages such as coffee can make the airways open slightly. goo.gl
OVB Should have done this with my boys... Interesting, initial research showing that having a baby sleep on animal fur reduces the risk of a child developing asthma. I knew this applied to growing up on a farm -- I suppose this may have a similar effect. goo.gl

Hal Strange but true, dentists can offer a variety of devices for sleep apnea, though a sleep center probably won't tell you this. These devices try to reposition the jaw or tongue to keep the airway open during sleep. These devices are another option that are worth looking in to.
OVB Interesting study showing CPAP can reverse the effects of severe sleep apnea in terms of 'white matter' brain damage. This type of damage is associated with loss of alertness, brain function and increased moodiness. m.medicalxpress.com
KGB My son had his adenoids and tonsils removed to address childhood sleep apnea. Here's data from an interesting randomized study on the topic. Suggests that children who underwent the procedure experienced improved symptoms, behavior and quality of life: goo.gl
OVB Interesting study on effectiveness of implantable stimulation device on obstructive sleep apnea. Study was conducted on those who what difficulty using CPAP. Stimulation led to significant improvements for those in the study. goo.gl

OVB Interesting study on how statins might work in the treatment of COPD shows that statins were not effective in reducing the rate of acute COPD exacerbation. While certainly powerful in terms of helping to treat coronary artery disease, probably a limited future (if any) for statins in the treatment of COPD. goo.gl
